Midday Prayer: What am I Doing For Christ?

Posted on November 6th, 2013

Silence, Stillness, and Centering before God (2 minutes) Scripture Reading – Luke 15:11-24 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. ..“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father…“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him… “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. Devotional Imagine Christ our Lord suspended on a cross before you, and converse with Him…How is it that He, although He is the Creator, has come to make Himself a human being? How is it that He has passed from eternal life to death here in time, and to die in this way for my sins? In a similar way, reflect on yourself and ask:

  • What have I done for Christ?
  • What am I doing for Christ?
  • What ought I to do for Christ?

In this way, too, gazing at Him in so pitiful a state as He hangs on the cross, speak out whatever comes to your mind?     St. Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises Question to Consider Focus yourself on the boundless mercy of God. Then slowly ask yourself the three questions once again:

  • What have I done for Christ?
  • What am I doing for Christ?
  • What ought I to do for Christ?

Prayer Abba, I receive Your embrace, Your kisses, Your love. Forgive me for wandering away so often from such an ocean of love. I surrender my will to Yours this day. Conclude with Silence (2 minutes)
